Tarpon Springs

Once called the “sponge capital of the world,” Tarpon Springs provide an historical district and a delightful downtown center listed on the National Registrar of Historic Places. Specialty shops line brick streets giving visitors a view of late 1800’s. The sponge docks provide access to gulf fishing or a relaxing boat ride and view dolphins. Tarpon Springs offers 51 miles of waterfront along the Anclote River and the Gulf of Mexico less than an hour north of St. Petersburg only 44 minutes from Tampa International Airport. Restaurants and shops offer a view of the Greek culture that helped establish the sponge industry. The Tarpon Springs Performing Arts and Cultural Centers offer concerts, theater, art as well as a variety of excellent programs.
